In terms of their chemistry, proteins are chains of amino acids. Proteins are an important ingredient in our diet, and are used by the body to build itself. Biologically, proteins play an important role as the enzymes driving many physiological processes. In essence, proteins are the workers driving all biological processes. The following video clip describes proteins’ chemical structure and explains basic concepts in chemistry.

The video was produced by the cassiopeia project

This is the last of the three video clips about molecules vital in nutrition. The other clips in the series: Carbohydrates and Fats.
The clip introduces terms explained in detail in the “Periodic Table” and “The Chemical Bond” articles on the site.
You can also learn how proteins are made in “The Secret of Life” article.
